European Baccalaureate studies

There are important things to keep in mind, as well as special instructions, for European Baccalaureate students.

If you've completed your EB Diploma programme at the time of application

If you've already completed your EB Diploma programme, and are a citizen of an EU/EEA country, you're welcome to apply to the first or second admissions round. Follow the instructions for documenting your eligibility in this section.

If you've completed your EB Diploma programme but are a citizen of a country outside the EU/EEA, we recommend that you only apply to the first admissions round. The second admissions round has much later deadlines and applicants won't receive their admissions decision until July. This time frame makes it nearly impossible for non-EU/EEA students to apply for and receive a residence permit in time for studies in August.

First admissions round applications

If you haven't yet completed your EB Diploma programme, do not apply to the first admissions round. University Admissions will not be able to evaluate your application in time for admissions decisions in April, as we need to have your completed EB transcript and diploma in order to do so.

Second admissions round applications

If you haven't yet completed your EB Diploma programme but are in your last year at the time of application, we recommend you apply to the second admissions round only if you're a citizen of an EU/EEA country. Non-EU/EEA citizens are not encouraged to apply to the second round.

Meeting the English requirement - bachelor's and master's level studies

You can meet the English requirement with English Language 1 or 2 (L1 or L2).

You can also demonstrate that you meet the English language requirement through certain university studies, or an internationally approved English test.

Previous studies that meet the general entry requirements and any special documentation instructions

For bachelor's level studies:

The European Baccalaureat meets the general entry requirements. You may also need to have the equivalent of certain specific courses or complete with these subjects in other ways.

See Bachelor's requirements

For master's level studies:

The European Baccalaureate does not meet the requirements for studies at the master's level in Sweden.

For autumn semester applicants graduating with an EB diploma in the spring of 2026

The EB diploma results are sent directly from the school. If you have any questions, you can contact them.

  • In order for University Admissions to access your EB diploma results for the first selection in July, your results must be sent directly to University Admissions by your school. If you have any questions, contact your EB coordinator.
  • Submit any other documents needed to meet the entry requirements. One common example is if you need to demonstrate that you meet the specific requirements in Modern languages, Physics or Chemistry if you studied the subject in S5 and S6 but not in S7. In such cases, we require a transcript showing courses and credits (or School report for semester 2) for years S5 and S6.

You should submit these documents when you apply or by the supporting documentation deadline listed in Key Dates and Deadlines.

For applicants with an EB diploma awarded 2025 or earlier

  • If you already have an EB diploma, you must upload a scan of your European Baccalaureate certificate and final transcript of grades, in its original language.
  • You must also submit any other documents that may be required in order to fulfil the entry requirements, e.g. transcript with courses and credits (or School report semester 2) from year S5 and S6.

These documents must reach University Admissions by the supporting documentation deadline for the admission round you've applied to as noted on Key dates and deadlines.

Translation requirements

Documents issued in English, French, Spanish, German, Danish, Norwegian, Swedish and Finnish do not need to be translated.

If your documents are in any other language, you must also submit an official translation of the documents in Swedish or English. Official means that your translation must be completed by a translation company or a person who works as a translator. We also accept official translations issued by your EB school.
