International Baccalaureate studies

There are important things to keep in mind, as well as special instructions, for International Baccalaureate students.

If you've completed your IB Diploma programme at the time of application

If you've already completed your IB Diploma programme, and are a citizen of an EU/EEA country, you're welcome to apply to the first or second admissions round. Follow the instructions for documenting your eligibility in this section.

If you've completed your IB Diploma programme but are a citizen of a country outside the EU/EEA, we recommend that you only apply to the first admissions round. The second admissions round has much later deadlines and applicants won't receive their admissions decision until July. This time frame makes it nearly impossible for non-EU/EEA students to apply for and receive a residence permit in time for studies in August.

First admissions round applications

If you haven't yet completed your IB Diploma programme, do not apply to the first admissions round. University Admissions will not be able to evaluate your application in time for admissions decisions in April, as we need to have your completed IB transcript and diploma in order to do so.

Second admissions round applications

If you haven't yet completed your IB Diploma programme but are in your last year at the time of application, we recommend you apply to the second admissions round only if you're a citizen of an EU/EEA country. Non-EU/EEA citizens are not encouraged to apply to the second round.

Meeting the admission requirements

You can meet the general entry requirements for bachelor's studies in Sweden with an International Baccalaureate Diploma that lists subjects taken. A Non-regular IB Diploma is also accepted.

How you can meet the general, specific and English requirements can vary a bit depending on when you received you IB diploma. Find out more at the following pages:

Document Instructions

There are steps you need to take to make sure University Admissions can access/receive your IB documentation on time.

For autumn semester applicants with an IB Diploma awarded in May 2026

  • In order for University Admissions to access your IB results for the first selection in July, you must ask the IB coordinator at your school to make your results available through the IB's Result Service. When submitting results together with your coordinator via IB’s Results Service, use recipient code “UHR”. The coordinator should make your results available to University Admissions by 5 July.
  • If you're doing retakes in May 2026, ask the IB coordinator at your school to make your results available to "UHR" through the IB's Result Service as soon as possible but no later than 5 July. You must also submit your earlier diploma/certificate by the document deadline for the admissions round you've applied to. Find out more at Key dates.

Submit any other grades you need to fulfil the entry requirements, e.g. Pre-IB grades, by the document deadline as indicated on Universityadmissions.se.

For applicants with an IB Diploma awarded 2025 or earlier

  • If you already have an IB Diploma, submit scans/copies of your original diploma including test results. These documents must reach University Admissions by the document deadline for the admissions round you've applied to. Don't use the IB Result Service to submit your documentation.
  • Other required documents, such as transcripts from Pre-IB, must arrive at University Admissions by the document deadline for that admissions round.

Retakes awarded 2025 or earlier

If you already have an IB Diploma but have completed retakes, submit scans/copies of the original diploma/certificate and the new IB Diploma - both are required. Your documents must reach University Admissions by the document deadline for the admissions round you've applied to.
